Hi there!

(Comments make me happy.) This is where you'll find my most recent
work, whether it's from a commissioned shoot, trips I've taken or
goofing off out back with my dog. I'm having so much fun as a
portrait and wedding photographer after spending 10 years in journalism
as a reporter. I'm based in Colorado Springs, CO, and I'm available
worldwide. (Comments really do make me happy.)

I photographed Amber and Craig’s dog, Bear, several years ago, then their wedding in August 2007. And here’s what they’ve made together. She’s 2 months old.

erin + jeff | 2.6.10

Erin and Jeff didn’t get to see each other during the seven months leading up to their wedding. They’re both in the Air Force, and Jeff was deployed to Iraq. They were married while Jeff was home on a two-week break and now he’s back in Iraq for another four months. I hope the wedding photos will help them pass the time.

Erin and Jeff’s wedding at Garden of the Gods Club came in-between snow days, but I think they would’ve been up for some flakes – the bride and all of her girls wore Uggs. My first Ugg wedding!

These peeps were so easy to work with. Ask them to stand within range of a stinky trash dumpster? No problem. (Those photos are the wall with ivy.) Erin and Jeff also made arrangements for someone to bring their dog, Bella, by to be in some photos. Dog people!

The following excerpt from “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin” by Louis de Bernieres was read during the ceremony:

Love is a temporary madness;
it erupts like volcanoes and then subsides.
And when it subsides you have to make a decision.
You have to work out whether your roots have so entwined together
that it is inconceivable that you should ever part.
Because this is what love is.
Love is not breathlessness,
it is not excitement,
it is not the promulgation of eternal passion.
That is just being “in love” which any fool can do.
Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away,
and this is both an art and a fortunate accident.
Those that truly love have roots that grow towards each other underground,
and when all the pretty blossom have fallen from their branches,
they find that they are one tree and not two.

This is another wedding my friend Carly Mitchell helped me shoot. She was a tremendous help because I was pretty sick that day. So thank you, thank you, thank you, Carly. (I’ve indicated below which photos she took.)

Congrats, Erin and Jeff!

jamison murphy | the first CD

Jamison released his first CD this week!

He’s been on the blog several times. He’s a 13-year-old singer-songwriter who’s written more than 200 sings and does covers, including songs by Pink Floyd, Neil Young and The Shins. Instruments he plays include guitar, piano, mandolin, dobro, banjo, dulcimer, glockenspiel, ukulele and didgeridoo.

In 2008, he won 1st place in the Savannah Folk Festival’s Youth Songwriting Competition (he was the youngest winner). He was featured in a two-page spread in the Jan/Feb 2009 issue of Savannah Magazine. (You can read that story here.)

Tomorrow at the Savannah Market Bazaar, Jamison will offer his music for sale for the first time. His self-titled CD features 5 songs: “Disguise,” “The Ballad of Tom Shambeau,” “Houses,” “For Me” and “Such a Pretty Day.”

Today I started streaming “Houses” on my main Web site. It’s one of my fave Jamison songs. Here’s what he had to say earlier today about the song:

“Houses” is a song I wrote partially about people who build onto their houses until there’s almost no place to go, with stairs going into ceilings and all. That fascinates me. Also, it’s about things not really being what they seem – sort of keeping things hidden, like the metaphor in the song being what’s inside the (seemingly normal) houses. I recorded it with a keyboard on the organ setting and I overdubbed the voices, so the second voice you hear is actually another track of me singing along, only in a lower octave.

To listen to “Houses,” go to my site here, enter the site and click the play button on the jukebox that is to the bottom right of the photos in the slideshow (next to the “full screen” icon).

To learn more about Jamison or to buy his CD, visit his Facebook fan page here. If you don’t have Facebook, get in touch with me.

Congrats, Jamison!

(These photos are from a session I did with him in 2008 in downtown Savannah, Ga.)
