I had an impromptu photo session today with Quinn and Kai after a family shoot by the fab Carly Mitchell, as she’s known in these parts. Quinn is already in week 5, and we’re a little sad about how quickly he’s growing and changing. We’re holding onto this stage for as long as he’ll let us.

Quinn is 1 month old. And even though I’ve never functioned on so little sleep before, rocking him to sleep in the middle of the night – or morning or day – is like nothing I can adequately explain. Here’s to many more months and years of this.

At our bebe party – we refused to call it a shower or bath – I put out a blank journal and asked our friends to leave a note about what a baby means to them. Some of the excerpts:

Our bebe came a week early on July 26. It’s a boy (we waited until delivery to find out). Meet Quinn Campbell. We can’t get enough of him. He gets the hiccups every day, does yoga stretches after naps like he’s an old pro and makes scrunchy faces and smiley faces within seconds of each other. We can’t wait to see what becomes of him and what becomes of us from having him in our lives.

He’s 11 days old today, and this was his first photo session – I’m thinking he may have a few more.

Some days are good just because of the people in them. I received this email last week and have permission to share it with you:

Dear Anslee,

I’ve been a loyal follower to your incredible photography since September 5, 2004, when you photographed my daughter’s wedding (Kimberly and Mike). I never get tired of looking through the personal album Kimmy made for me following her wedding day. And I’ve never seen more beautiful pictures than you took on her special day and then of her son, Finn. You are so amazing, Anslee! I truly love seeing your beautiful and unique visions through your lenses. I’ve always dreamed of having you take pictures of my husband and I (married 31 years … and counting!!) together someday.

I will continue to follow your visions and hopefully someday have you see us through your eyes!!

briar + kea

Briar has had at least one horse since I’ve known her, and that’s been several years. She’s had two for the past two years, but she realized it was best to narrow it down to one as she prepares to head off to college in a year. Kea went back to the owner Briar got her from, so she knows Kea will get lots of love. Briar wanted photos of her and Kea before that happened, and we shot these the day before. Briar can visit anytime she wants.

evan

Nope, he’s not mine! I didn’t want anyone confused from the get go.

Evan was scheduled to arrive just a month before my bebe, but there were other plans and he came a few weeks early on June 15. If mine did the same, it’d be here Monday. Wow.

When I photographed Evan he wasn’t too interested in showing me his eyes, which is common for such wee ones. I got two shots with his eyes open. After I left, he was wide-eyed for two hours. Just shows I’m always on the baby’s schedule. Guess I better get used to it.

I’m thinking you’ll see much more of Evan on the blog over time. I’m hoping he’ll be a playmate with mine. I’m friends with his mom – and Evan lives across from a great playground in Denver and a mile away from my fave cupcake bakery, Lovely Confections.

So this is just the beginning.

The second shot is the other little fella in the family. Bentley is still getting used to Evan.

getting ready | bebe

I realized today that bebe will be full term as of Monday. That means bebe could come out and play any day, and hopefully that’ll happen sooner than later. I took a break today from last-minute work things – wrapping up photo sessions and filing sales taxes – to focus on bebe goodies like all of those adorable clothes. Bebe’s room is pretty much ready – just needs the wee one. So bebe, you can come anytime after Monday. (We still don’t know if bebe is a boy or girl.)

a big pig

If I weren’t already vegetarian, this would do it. Tuners the pig was rescued from slaughter and spends his fat, happy days among horses, a llama, cows, another pig and goats in Fountain, CO.

elise + jason | 6.5.10

With some peeps, you know you want to work with them as soon as you get that first email. That was the case with Elise and Jason. Her email included: “My fiance is from Georgia, our Minister is from Georgia, and you’re from Georgia – it’s destiny!! I’d love for you to capture our special day!”

Elise and Jason were married at the Vail Interfaith Chapel, with a reception at The Lodge at Vail. There was lots of crying and laughing during the ceremony. Elise and Jason wrote letters to each other and each letter was read by a guest. At one point, Jason was trying hard not to cry and ended up making a snorting noise, which set off Elise.

They were both so relaxed on the big day. They saw each other before the ceremony, which allowed us to get all of the portraits done ahead of time so they could party with their guests as soon as they said their vows.

This is yet another wedding my friend Carly Mitchell help me shoot. I’ve indicated below which photos she took.

Elise and Jason’s wedding is the last one I’m shooting before my first bebe arrives this summer, then I’ll start back in October. If you’re wanting to get on my schedule for portraits, please let me know as soon as possible so we can get you down since I’ll have limited shooting time this year.
